Scanned copy of what Joan wrote

Below is something Joan wrote about herself

I am my fathers child and my mothers daughter.
I am my husbands wife and my sons mother.
I am a teacher to my students and a maker of things.
I am a lover of life.
This is what I am but not all that I am.

Joan frequently said that what
we should strive for in marriage
is the following"

A good relationship has a pattern like a dance and
it is built on some of the same rules.
The partners need not hold on tightly, because they move confidently
in the same pattern, swift, free, happy, and gay, like a country dance of Mozarts.
There is no place for the pessimistic, clutch, the clinging arm,
only the barest touch is needed.
Now arm in arm, now face to face, now back to back; it does not matter much ....
they know they are partners, moving to the same rhythm, creating a pattern together and
being invisibly nourished by it.
