White veined Wintergreen
Also called: whitevein shinleaf
(Pyrola picta)
Note: The Latin word "picta" means "painted or variegated". (see the leaves below)
There are eight different Pyrola species found in Oregon:
1. Leafless Wintergreen: (Pyrola aphylla)
2. Large Pyrola, Liverleaf Wintergreen, (Pink Pyrola or Pyrola asarifolia)
3. Greenish Wintergreen, Greenflowered Wintergreen, Green-flowered Wintergreen: (Pyrola chlorantha)
4. Toothed Wintergreen: (Pyrola dentate)
5. Lesser Wintergreen, Snowline Pyrola: (Pyrola minor)
6. White Pyrola, White-veined Wintergreen: (Pyrola picta)
7. Sidebells Pyrola: (Orthilia secunda)
8. Woodnymph, Single Delight: (Moneses uniflora)
