This web site was primarily created for those of you who are not yet retired
to give you an idea of what you will be able to do once your are retired
(as a special courtesy I include Tamara and Karen even though I think they may be already retired)
On Tuesday morning Joan and I noticed that:
the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday in Lake Oswego was:
"very hot, 94 with hazy, unhealthy smoke in the air from Canadian wild fires"
Being retired, on Tuesday morning when we saw this forecast we said:
"Let go to the coast for a couple of days" where the temperature was 62.
See the results below
We did not realize that the coming weekend is the date of the Hood-to-Coast Race.
the Hood-to-coast race is a big deal at the coast
The Hood-to-coast race is a 199 mile race that will have about 13,000 racers.
They start in Mt Hood and end at Seaside on the Oregon coast .
There are 1,000 teams each of which paid a $10,000 entry fee
(or the fee was paid by a sponsor like Nike)
Seaside is a town with a population of 6000 that is expecting 20,000 visitors this weekend.
We had planned to stay at Seaside and we had no idea that this was "race week".
After a bit of pleading we finally were given more or less the last room in the entire town.
We really did not want to drive back to Portland and they did not like seeing an old tired man cry
To give you an idea of what Seaside is like,
Each of the 1000 teams is given a tent on the beach
