Saw on Hike along Upper Salmon River Trail Thursday 8/29/13
The spores of this mushroom have a very peculiar shape
see below
There were dozens of these
The cap was six to seven inches across
The stem broke like chalk
It looks like some type of Russula
The spore print was definitely white
The spores appear to have a stem
Does anyone know what this is and if so does it
identify the species
Interspersed with the above mushrooms were a lot
of what I think are Russula Brevipes
see pictures below of these Russula brevipes
and of their spores --
the spores are the same as those
above except they do not have a stem or handle on each spore as do those show
first above
Here are the spores of these (what I think are)
Russula brevipes
The spore print was definitely white
