Make the Dough


Ingredients:
• 5 lbs of Gold Medal Flour
• 3 lbs Sweet Butter (melted and brought to room temperature
• 6 eggs
• 2 & 1/4 cups sugar
• 1 jigger rye

Steps to Make the Dough
1) Mix sugar into butter and creame thoroughly
2) Mix eggs into butter and sugar mixture
3) Add jiggar of rye
4) Add Flour, gradually creaming togethere
5) Chill dough in refrigerator for one-half hour

Make the Filling

Ingredients
• 3 lbc. of pitted dates
• 1 lbs of walnuts
Steps to Make the Filling
1) Thoughly clean a meat chopper
2) Put dates through the chopper
3) Put Walnuts through the chopper
4) Mix dates and nuts together
5) Optional -- add a little butter to soften the mixture


Make the Pastries

1) Take a small piece of dough and flatten out - about the size of a the mouth of a cup
2) Make an square shape
3) Make a line of the filling on the dough -- see picture below --
4) Wrap the fillinhg in the dough to make a "cable"
5) Connect the cable in a circle


Bake until Slightly Brown on the Bottom

1) Pre Heat the Oven to 350 degrees
2) Place on a rack in the middle of the oven
3) Bake for about 15 or 20 minutes at 350 degrees -- until lightly brown on the bottom
