Western Bistort

Also called: American Bistort and Mountain Doc
Scientific Name: Polygonum bistortoides

Seen on Hike to McNiel Point 8/8/13

The Western Bistort is a perennial member of the buckwheat family. However, the leaves are not retained year to year.

The flowers are white or pinkish in dense thick spike. Flowers have 5 lobes fused only at base, and eight stamens sticking out, giving the flower a fuzzy look
