From Hike to Tamanawas Falls 7/30/13

Yarrow is a drought tolerant perennial.

Some botonist say this plant is native to Europe. Others say that there are several varieties of Achillea millefolium in the US, some are native while others were introduced from Europe.

Yarrow also a good garden plant. That is probably why it was taken across the ocean. It also can be used in fresh or dried arrangements and has a pleasing fragrance.

Yarrow has attractive, aromatic, finely divided feathery leaves. The leaflets and subleaflets are either curled, crinkled, or flat.

Like the stems, the leaves and their subdivisions often have fine cobwebby hairs.

The finely dissected leaves resemble those of a fern and are easily identified even in the seedling stage. The foliage has a pleasant smell when crushed.

The nectar of the flowers attracts many kinds of insects, especially flies and wasps.
