Do the following pictures show the difference
between Boletus mirabilis and Boletus zelleri

(forgetting the newer names)

Yes (Aureo)boletus mirabilis is on top, showing the scruffy, velvety brownish top and kind of wine colored stipe.

Xerocomellus atropurpureus (B. zelleri ) is below, showing the bald, dark purple, almost black cap, and reddish stipe

(Noah Siegel says that Xerocomellus atropurpureus is the most common species of a group that look similar to former Boletus zelleri)




I previously posted a picture of what I thought was
B. mirabilis and Joe and Don indicated that it was B. zelleri
