Gymnopilus
Probably Gymnopilus sapineus Name given on Mushroom Observer

Found alongside of trail in Mt. Park 11/7/15

On What_is_this_Mushroom I asked
Is this Cortinarius?
Is what I see on the stem remnants of a Cortina
If this is a Cortinarius,
it appears to me to be Cortinarius croceus

Judy said: No, can’t be a Cort, since it was growing in wood chips.
Also, Cort. crocus is a more slender stemmed and shaped mushroom
with darker, yellow/orange/ochre gills.
The spore size is too small too.

Notice the brown bruising stains on the stem - that will get you to a probable identification. Good luck!

Try Gymnopilus species, and one in Arora’s MDM gives you a closer match
- growing on wood (as most of these species do).
Other names considered:
a) Gymnopilus multifolius Also called Pholiots multifolia
b) Gymnopilus multifolius
c) Gymnopilus liquiritiae
d) Gymnopilus bellulus
e) Gymnopilus terrestris
