Cortinarius

As to species:
Probably Cortinarius subalpinusor or Cortinarius clandestinus
A comment on Mushroom Observer indicates these may be the same species
May also be Cortinarius cotoneus
which may or may not be the same as C. subalpinusor and C. clandestinus
see references given below:

found 3/19/15 on Mt. Hood at about 3000 ft.
Growing in the duff on side of trail under Doug Fir

Click for discussion of C. contoneus that says C. contoneus grows under confer in the NW and under broad leaf in Europe.

Reference says C. contoneus is distinguished by feltlike cover on the cap (which this specimen has) Says C. subalpinus encountered in the spring.

Finally all of the above apparently belong to the subgenus or section Leprocybe

Note: Dick B. said:
"The thin jagged veil remnants left at the lower edge of the white area is common on mushrooms with a fibrillose veil.
A membranous veil would usually leave a straighter remnant.

I would try to find fibrils left from the remnants of the cortina,
if colored by the spores they should be easy to see.

The reddish brown spores would usually indicate Cortinarius
but some times Hebeloma spores are a little to reddish also.

The stipe is solid and fibrous

The spores are brown or redish brown

The spores are nearly globose
5 to 6 by 6 to 7 microns
