Your specimen appears to be one of the "red" tipped species of which there are 4 common ones.
You might be able to narrow down the possibilities by staining the base flesh with Melzers
and Ferric sulfate. Ferric sulfate will stain the flesh green if it is R. coulterae.
Melzers will stain the flesh brown and then purple or violet rather quickly with
R. rubripermanens but more slowly and sometimes weakly with R. rubrievanescens or botrytis.
Other then that you would need to check the spores and determine if there are any clamps.--Dick"
