An adventure along the Clackmas River
Thanks to Joan's friendliness -7/16/15

The group was hiking on a terrible trail and I had to stop.
We told the group we would meet them on the way back

As we were waiting, out of the woods (not from the trail) came
this fellow who turned out to be American Indian.

Joan befriended him and he took a liking to Joan.

He offered to take us up a secret trail to a sacred Indian spot,
that few "white people" had ever seen. It was a terribly difficult
trail, that no same person would try to climb.

The results were spectacular. We had the privilege of seeing a sacred
Indian mask that has been in this place for thousands of years.

I think this Indian was a bit high on "weed" and after some
coaxing, he agreed to allow us to take picture of this mask.
Scroll down to see them.

This is the kind of trail
on which the group was hiking

This is what I was doing when
the Indian came out of the bushes

He had us climb up
this waterfall
He said we had to get wet
to be cleansed before we
could enter the sacred place

this is what we saw

If we ever tell its location
the Indian spirits will
turn us into stone

For thousands of years, this
mask was placed in front of
the chief's tent.
It is over ten thousand years old
When the chief died, the mask was
moved to the tent of the new chief

When the Indians were being
driven out of Oregon to Montana,
they could not carry this mask so
they hid it in a sacred place
so that it can be used when
Indians again roam on these
sacred mountains
