Cow Parsnip
(Heracleum lanatum)

Cow parsnip is a biennial that spreads by seed.

Two related plants are
Poison Helmlock and Water Hemlock

Balsamroot
One of the more than a dozen species

American Indians used the sap
from this plant as a topical antiseptic

The large taproot of this plant is edible


Directions to the trailhead
1) Take I-84 East to Exit 44 - Cascade Locks
2) Cross the Bridge of the Gods
3) Turn left on Hwy 14
4) Go passed the Bonneville Dam on your left
5) After about 2.5 miles Turn Right on Hot Springs Rd.
6) Go under the railroad trestle and take an immediate right on Cascade Drive
7) Follow Cascade Drive as it sweeps around this flat area
8) Watch for sign to Bonneville Hot Springs
9) Turn into the resort and park
10) Note there is a $5.00 parking fee (gives coupon for use in gift shop)
