North Santiam

Hike along the Little North Santiam
Thursday 4/30/15
First Stop: the Three Pools Area
Then along the river to the Shady Cove Camp Ground

Our first destination

The group is assembled at the Three Pools Campground

The water was
perfectly clear,
but the rocks make it appear
to be green

Joan saw
a giant fish
in the water

Then we moved on
to the Shady Cove Campground

The group assembles at the second stop

This is the trail
we followed

Why is this fellow
the only one on that
side of the stream

Naturally, we
stopped for lunch
at a delightful spot

On the way home,
I stopped to say
goodby to a friend

Directions to trailhead
1) Proceed south on I5 - go passed Salem
2) take exit 253 to Highway 22
3) At exit turn left (East) onto North Santiam Highway 22
4) Drive 23 miles to second flashing yellow light (Mehama)
The second flashing light is opposite North Frok Crossing Restaurant
(was formerly the Swiss Village)
5) Turn left onto North Fork Road
6) On North Fork Road Drive 14.5 miles (mostly on paved road)
7) At Elkhorn Drive the road becomes gravel
8) Drive 2.8 miles passed Elkhorn Drive on the dirt road
9) Turn into 3 Pools parking Lot (that is paved)
10)To get to trailhead #3338
A) exit 3 Pools parking lot and turn right
B) follow sign to Camp Cove Campground
C) Cross Shady Cove Bridge and park
