Seven mile hike
---- Wahtum Lake and Tomlike Mt. in Mark Hatfield Wilderness ----
Thursday, July 24, 2014
This is where we hiked
We followed the PCT to the Herman Creek Trail
Then along the crest of Tomlike Mtn for a bit
We returned via Anthill trail.
At the trailhead our leader gives instructions
Note, everyone is wearing a jacket.
It was COLD and a bit wet.
The first part of the trail was a long series of steps going down to the lake.
The trail was very nice.
The forest was very open and covered with Bear Grass
The trail on the ridge of Tomlike Mt. was a bit rocky.
The group had lunch among the rocks
Joan pays attention to the signs so she will not get lost.
This fellow always has a smile
We saw some flowers and some mushrooms
Mariposa Lilly
(Calochortus)
This is probably Calochortus leichtlinii
However, there are many species of Calochortus
Click here to see the various species of Calochorus
"The nurturing qualities of Mariposa Lily draw the soul into a deep
interior space like the chalice of the flower itself".
(from the Flower Essence Society - http://www.flowersociety.org/M-Lily-Botanical.htm
Ramaria
Ramaria is a genus of coral fungi.
The Ramaria genus of mushrooms has about 200 different species.
This is probably Ramaria rubricarnata.
