Five mile hike
Mary's Peek
Tuesday, June 25, 2014

This shows our hike path.

On the way down, one part of the group (that did not want to take the recommendations of our leaders Meredith and Mel) didn't exactly find a trail they had hoped to follow and they went over one section of the trail twice; however, they definitely were not lost.
(see other map below)

Our leaders Meredith and Mel assemble the group at the trailhead

The trail up was through beautiful forest. In many areas the forest floor was cover with Star Solomon Seal and in other area the forest floor was covers with Oxalis.

We arrived at a meadow covered with flowers

We had lunch at the top in an area with an astonishing array of flowers.

The view from the top was awesome

The trip down was a bit of an adventure, at least for a group that followed a different route that that recommended by our leaders Meredith and Mel.

Here Joan thinks see is seeing two trees; however, it is just that we went over this part of the trail twice.

Any confusion about what trail to follow was due to this very confusing map provided by the Forest Service.

However, we all did get back, safe and sound.

Neottia is a genus of orchids. This medium-sized orchid can be easily overlooked even though it is one of our commonest species The name twayblades refers to the single pair of opposite leaves at the base of the flowering stem.
