Six Mile Hike
Along the Lewis River
5/13/14

The entire hike was along the Lewis River.
In the Gifford Pinchot national forest

The river was running high, fast and cold.

The trail was good.

Much of the trail was through old growth forest.

There were a few places where we had to cross small streams.
Some crossings were a bit tricky

Our first destination was this old hut.

It was originally built in 1928, and recently rebuilt.

We had lunch at the hut

After lunch we hiked back to the trail head, stopping to admire the old growth forest.

Back at the trail head, everyone decided to go on the trail on the opposite side of the trailhead.

One of the falls was particularly spectacular.

There is a rock bridge across and in front of the falls.

This is the second falls along the river.

It is the Curly Creek Falls.

Looking toward the bottom of the falls, one could see a rainbow.

We were on Lewis River Trail 31

There were flowers along the trail

There was lots of Oxalis along the path that had lots of pretty little delicate flowers.

There were a few Calypso Lilies

Near the hut there were lots of
fairybells

there were a fair number of these large black mushrooms

to get to trailhead,
Take I5 north to Exit 21 - Woodland, WA
Follow 503 East to 503 Spur and then top NF90
Turn on NF9039
