Five and a half mile hike 4/24/14
Dalles Mtn Ranch

A wonderful hike
However, at one point we missed the trail (see map below)
As someone remarked "that made it a wonderful adventure"
Fortunately, no one stepped on a rattlesnake while we were off trail

Where we hiked

Note that at one point our path is a bit away from where the trail is located

The group assembles

The views and flowers were terrific

We could see clear across the river

Mostly we followed nice trails

As you can see on the map above
At one point we missed the trail and had to walk through relatively high grass

Fortunately, no one stepped on a rattlesnake.

This is a wider area map to show where the hike was located

Here is the sign at the park entrance

Below are some of the flowers we saw

Desert Parsley
(Lomatium ambiguum)

Also called: Wyeth Biscuitroot
desert swale parsley

Phlox

Balsamroot
(Balsamorhiza)

Native Americans used the sap of this plant as an antiseptic for minor wounds.

The large taproots are edible and were harvested, dried, and ground into a starchy flour by Native Americans

Lupin
(Lupinus)
