Eight Mile Hike on the McKenzie River trail 9/26/13

Here is where the hike started

It is at the headwater of the McKenzie River

After a long ride everyone was anxious to be reunited with their gear so that the hike could begin.

Everyone went out on the dock to view the beautiful lake.

Joan notices that the dock is beginning to sink because there are too many people on it.

Our leader made certain no one fell in.

Pictures can not capture the beauty and clarity of this beautiful lake.

After awhile we had to get ready to leave Clearlake.

Clearlake is even a destination resort for bird so the resort provided a bird Motel

The Ramblers circle-up in an orderly fashion getting ready to ramble.

The hikers circle-up, but not in a very orderly fashion

The trail followed the river. It was wonderful hearing the water

The waterfalls were spectacular

We followed the McKenzie River Trail No. 3507

There were bridges to cross
Here is Elmer on one of the bridges

We followed the river with wonderful views of the river

We arrive at the falls

It was tempting to go close to the edge to get a better view of the falls

Some places the river was calm

A couple of happy hikers

There were lots of falls along the river

We hiked through lots of old growth forest with gigantic trees

Some of the bridges were not so nice
Here is Joan getting ready to cross a bridge and then enjoying the view

Joan is happy she made it across

Elmer does not like bridges, but these were ok

The old growth forest was spectacular

Some of the trees were big enough to make into a cabin

Most of the trail was easy to hike on

After a few miles the river went completely underground and it flowed for three miles in a volcanic lava tube.

Then it surfaced in this beautiful clear "Blue Pool" .

Note, the place where it went underground was covered with an ugly concrete structure that I refused to photograph.

After the river surface, we then again could see and hear the water

The last mile was a lava field covered with moss

We were following the river to the very end of the hike

There were big trees up to the end of the trail

The bridges were very nice near the end of the trail
