Eight Mile Hike on the McKenzie River trail 9/26/13

This was our first stop

It is at the headwaters of the McKenzie River

After a long ride everyone was anxious to be reunited with their gear so that the hike could begin.

Everyone went out on the dock to view the beautiful lake. I do not have a picture of it, but the dock could not hold the weight and it began to go under water. No disaster happened.

Our leader made certain no one fell in.

Pictures cannot capture the beauty and clarity of this beautiful lake.

After awhile we had to get ready to leave Clearlake.

Clearlake even has a bird Motel

The Ramblers circle-up in an orderly fashion getting ready to ramble.

The hikers circle-up, but not in a very orderly fashion

The hike begins

The trail followed the river. It was wonderful hearing the water

The waterfalls were spectacular

We followed the McKenzie River Trail No. 3507

There were bridges to cross

These "fast walkers" had to decide if they should cross the bridge or wait for the rest of the group

We did cross the bridge, right behind a bicycle rider

We followed the river with wonderful views of the river

We arrive at the falls

Some places the river was calm

A couple of happy hikers

There were lots of falls along the river

We hiked through lots of old growth forest with gigantic trees

Some of the bridges were not so nice

The old growth forest was spectacular

Some of the trees were big enough to make into a cabin

Most of the trail was easy to hike on

After a few miles we came to a beautiful
"Blue Pool" were the river resurfaced. Note, the place it went underground was covered with an ugly concrete structure that I refused to photograph.

About two miles from the end, we assembled for a group photo

The last two miles were a lava field covered with moss

We were following the river to the very end of the hike

There were big trees up to the end of the trail

The bridges were very nice near the end of the trail

A sign tells about the river

This map shows where we walked
